Inline diesel engines, especially the inline high speed diesel engines, play a crucial role in various industrial applications. Wuxi Power Engineering Co., Ltd., as a renowned diesel engine manufacturer, has extensive expertise in producing these efficient powerhouses.
The working principle of an inline diesel engine:
Focusing on the four-stroke cycle: intake, compression, power (combustion), and exhaust.
The intake stroke begins when the piston moves downward, creating a vacuum that sucks in a fresh charge of air. In diesel engines, fuel is not injected at this stage. The intake valve opens to allow the air to enter the cylinder. In a six cylinder diesel engine, for example, this process occurs simultaneously in each of the cylinders.
During the compression stroke, the piston moves upward, compressing the air to a very high pressure. This compression raises the temperature of the air significantly. In industrial diesel engines, the high compression ratio is a key factor in enabling efficient combustion.
The power or combustion stroke is the most crucial. At the end of the compression stroke, fuel is injected into the highly compressed and heated air. The fuel rapidly ignites due to the high temperature and pressure, resulting in a powerful explosion that forces the piston downward. This release of energy is what drives the engine and provides the power output.
Finally, during the exhaust stroke, the piston again moves upward, pushing the burned gases out of the cylinder through the exhaust valve. These gases are then expelled from the engine to make way for the next cycle.
Inline diesel engines offer several advantages. Their simple and straightforward design makes them reliable and relatively easy to maintain. They are commonly used in a wide range of industrial applications where a dependable and efficient power source is required.
