Project: High-Efficiency Enrichment Technology Using Pervaporation Membranes and Its Engineering Applications

Principal Contributors: Xing Weihong, Ding Xiaobin, Jin Wanqin, Sun Xuefei, Liu Gongping and Xu Nanping

Principal Participating Organizations: Jiangsu LongMembrane High-Tech Co., Ltd. and Nanjing Tech University

      Research Achievements

The project focused on key breakthroughs in pervaporation membrane technology and achieved significant advances in the design and regulation of membrane materials as well as the development of new targeted separation and enrichment technologies. Innovative membrane material regulation methods successfully addressed technical challenges such as swelling resistance and stability, significantly improving the separation efficiency and operational stability of membrane systems.

The project team also developed spiral-wound, plate-and-frame and tubular membrane modules for high-efficiency separation. These modules effectively improved the recovery rate and energy efficiency of membrane systems while reducing equipment operating costs, enabling enrichment efficiencies of more than 85% for target products.

In addition, the project introduced a membrane-based process redesign methodology and developed a new deep-processing process for agricultural products based on pervaporation membranes. This marked the world’s first engineering application of pervaporation membrane technology in the deep processing of agricultural products, helping to move the industry toward higher-value and waste-free production.

Over the past three years, the project’s achievements have been commercialized by more than ten leading enterprises in the industry, generating nearly RMB 6 billion in additional output value and RMB 1.83 billion in additional profit. The technology has also enabled the recovery and reduced disposal of more than 12,000 metric tons of organic waste from agricultural products.

The project has received 20 granted invention patents, forming a portfolio of core patents covering its key technologies. It has also contributed to four industry and enterprise standards and resulted in the development of 20 new products. These achievements have advanced membrane industry technology, provided strong support for the high-quality production and high-value utilization of agricultural and sideline products, and contributed to China’s strategy for promoting the high-quality development of advanced agricultural processing.
